ABOUT THE EVENT
Building a multi-disciplinary network of trauma-informed care in South Texas
Workshop Objectives: The development of a young child is profoundly influenced by experience. We will review clinical work and research that can help us better understand developmental trauma, neglect and the relational problems that arise from such treatment. An overview will be provided that suggests new directions for clinical practice, program development and policy.

South Texas Trauma-Informed Care Consortium Convening
Attendees will receive up to 11 continuing education units for their attendance. Thursday’s sessions are valid for 6 CEUs, and Friday’s sessions are valid for 5 CEUs.
Speakers
Dr. Bruce Perry
Dr. Bruce Perry, a Senior Fellow of The Child Trauma Academy, a not-for-profit organization based in Houston, and adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Perry is the author, with Maia Szalavitz, of The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog, a bestselling book based on his work with maltreated children and Born For Love: Why Empathy is Essential and Endangered. Dr. Perry will present on Thursday, May 10 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM on “The Impact of Trauma and Neglect on the Developing Child.”
Dr. Joe Hendershott
Dr. Hendershott is a nationally recognized authority in dropout prevention and intervention for wounded students. He has written two acclaimed books, Reaching the Wounded Student and 7 Ways to Transform the Lives of Wounded Students. He is a keynote speaker at conferences across the United States. He also offers Professional Development Training for schools and has developed new Continuing Education Classes for online consumption. Everything is focused on trauma-informed practices that lead to HOPE for the wounded student.
Lori Beyer
Lori is a national trainer with Community Connections in Washington, D.C. Community Connections created the Creating Cultures of Trauma-Informed Care (CCTIC) model for organizations desiring to be trained and certified in trauma informed care. Lori has trained organizations across the country in the CCTIC model, helping staff with secondary traumatization, and working with victims of domestic violence.
Molly Rockett Davidson
Molly is a Training Specialist with the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. The Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development strives to help children suffering from the effects of early trauma, abuse, and/or neglect. They train professionals in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®), a holistic, attachment-based, and trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children.
Dr. Brigitte Bailey, UT Health, San Antonio
Dr. Bailey is on the faculty of the UT Health Department of Psychiatry and President of the Texas Psychiatry Association. Dr. Bailey specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry. She trains psychiatric residents, and is a key proponent of trauma-informed care. Her presentation focus on psychiatry and trauma in treating children.
Melissa Tijerina
Melissa is Vice President of Child Behavioral Health Services for the Center for Health Care Services in San Antonio. Her presentation will focus on trauma-informed care in community mental health, and the development of parent networks in navigating systems of care for children.
Dr. Susana Rivera
Dr. Rivera is a psychologist from Laredo, Texas who is a certified trainer in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Rivera has adapted TF-CBT for use with Hispanic populations. She specializes in trauma and border issues.
Dr. Jeannie Von Stultz, Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department
Dr. Von Stultz will discuss the effects of trauma on the adolescent brain, and trauma-informed care initiatives at the Juvenile Probation Department.
