The Children’s Shelter provides 24-hour temporary residential emergency care and assessments to 56 children per day, aged birth to 14 years, who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, abandonment, and/or neglect. At the Woodlawn location, children participate in classroom instruction in an on-campus school, field trips, and an array of activities in the Learning Center. All children are given assessments, which include 24-hour charting, complete medical, eye, and dental exams, a social history, a developmental history and a psychological examination and interview.
