Our Program Goal

Project Mothers and Schools (MAS) initiated in 1998 with the San Antonio Independent School District.

Since then Project MAS has been dedicated to helping teen parents acquire the necessary support to complete high school, become nurturing parents, and ultimately successful members of our community.

Project MAS wants to see young families succeed.
Therefore, we provide services of homebound instruction, case management, nurturing classes, and home visitations.

Our goal is to teach young families to create an environment that is nurturing, positive, safe and supportive for their families.

Our program and its’ staff is dedicated to helping students realize their dreams. We are devoted to supporting teen parents academically and help them plan for a brighter future. We equip them with the tools to be successful, nurturing, loving and responsible for their families. Our program helps teen parents strive towards realizing their goals and dreams. We are here for them!

OAPP Case Management Program

Case Management was created with the sole purpose to help young families learn to be independent and successful in providing care for their families.

All teen parents have the opportunity to receive case management including home visitation services from our Family Support Workers who provide an array of services to ensure each teen mothers success in school and beyond.

The Case management program teaches teen mothers with the Nurturing Program. This parenting curriculum was designed for teen mothers to learn parenting routines; ways to teach their children to build self esteem and self concept, developmental milestones and how create a positive environment for their children.

Our Family Support Workers help teen parents relieve some of the stress of parenting and coping with daily life situations at the same time.

Each Family Support Worker develops a relationship with the teen parents that they serve to help them with any struggles they may face. Family Support workers become someone that our teen parents can count on for help with community services and resources.

Project MAS South

Project MAS-South is a program under the Prevention Service Department of The Children’s Shelter organization that works with both teenage moms and dads in the Southside, Southwest and San Antonio Independent School District. There are 5 Family Support Workers (FSW) on board in the program that work with parents on a one on one basis.

The FSW meets with the teen parent at their home for periodic visits (weekly, biweekly or monthly). During the home visit the FSW will provide both education on parenting/nurturing skills and also case management.

Project MAS-South provides Nurturing, Support and Young Father Groups for parents enrolled into our program. All groups are held at our main location and also on school campuses.

Curriculums are used to facilitate groups. The following are a few curriculums used: Raising Children W/Pride, Nurturing Parenting, Nurturing Fathers and Doctor Dads.

All services provided by the Project MAS-South are free and only requirement to be in the program is to be pregnant or a parent and attending school (middle or high school) in the Southside, Southwest or San Antonio Independent School District.

Our Homebound Program

The Project MAS Homebound program works alongside the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) to help young teen mothers stay in school.

SAISD’s Teen Parenting Program refers teen mothers both post-natal, as well as pre-natal students with complications.

During maternity leave, teen mothers receive instructional services in a group setting with TEA certified teachers. This allows students to remain current in schoolwork and attendance and facilitates the student’s return to school.

• transportation for the students enrolled in the program.
• Childcare is also provided for the student’s children. They are nurtured by a trained child care provider in our nursery, while the student is in class.
• Homebound communicates routinely with Case Management and with the SAISD Social Workers to provide the best services possible for our teen parents.

Being a father has taught me a lot, I have had to grow up so quickly and learn so much. It’s a whole new world for me. This is all so new but I’m glad that I have the chance to explore this new world. I hope my child grows up and becomes whatever his dreams are and has a happy wonderful life. I want the best for my child. I’m going to work hard to give him what I didn’t have growing up.
